The hype has returned, and will remain for this season, because East Forsyth High School’s Women’s Fighting Eagles Soccer has arrived! Yes, the very same soccer team who finished 15-4-4 (9 – 1 in conference) last year, has comeback for the spring season. Coached by Chad Lorentz, the 21 roster team hopes to dominate their conference, and the state, this season.
“We are one big family,” said goal keeper Raigan Edwards. She truly believes they will have a successful season and she also enjoys playing with other people on a team. “Success is not an accident; it’s a choice,” she said. Edwards lives by this quote, and she says it motivates her whenever she reads it or remembers it.
Center-back Addie Stamper has high hopes this season. “I think we will do really well this season. We have a a strong defense, and a creative offense, and they makes for a really talented team.” When asked about her favorite part of the sport, Stamper said, “I really enjoy the competitiveness of it, and competing as a team.” Stamper believes the team’s chemistry is top-notch. “I like how nice everyone is and treats each other, and we’ll make everyone better by challenging ourselves everyday.”
The Women’s Varsity Fighting Eagles Soccer team finished 37th in the state last year (208th in the country). The team has expectations to even go farther this year, and be in the top 20 of the state. They played their first conference game on March 21 against Northwest Guilford.
Usually, there are only enough girls who tryout to create one women’s soccer team, but this year, they’ve have enough girls for two teams — and each has 20+ players on the team! Way to go, Eagles!
