The East Forsyth Men’s Soccer team is back on their journey to win the conference championship this year. They are coming off of one of their best seasons yet, winning the conference and going deep into the state playoffs.
The team started the year off placing fourth in the annual Forsyth Cup, picking up a win against R.J. Reynolds and falling to Mount Tabor and Reagan in the third place game. Placing fourth probably didn’t settle well with the team though, considering they won the tournament a year ago. The team is led by team captains Austin Britt (’16), Spencer Richardson (’16), and Thor Gignac (’16).
It seems as though the soccer team has a little bit of adversity to overcome this year. Don’t let their record discourage you from attending their games. They feel that they will heat up once they start to play their conference rivals. Their conference schedule started on September 29th verses High Point Central. Richardson weighed in on the team’s chances of repeating a conference championship, “We definitely feel that we have a good chance to win conference again this year”.
When asked about his leadership role on the team, center-mid, Britt commented, “It feels good to finally lead the team because I have been a part of the team since I was a freshman”. When asked about the team chemistry, Britt said, “We have really good team chemistry because most of us have played together for a long time”. In response to being asked if he would miss playing for East after graduating this year he responded, “It is tough to think about, but I am hopeful for my soccer career in college”.
Come out to support your men’s soccer team, and see for yourself if they can find the same success as last year and bring another championship back to East Forsyth.
