Poltergeist, (2015) the remake of the 1982 Poltergeist movie comes out in theaters May 22nd! It stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Jared Harris. The horror movie brings a more modern twist to the original movie. It has a trio of award winning and well respected people in the director Gil Kenan, producer Sam Raimi, and screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire. The rating of the movie is PG-13, but that doesn’t mean that it won’t be scary.

The plot of the movie goes as follows: Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi and director Gil Kenan re-imagine and contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is invaded by angry spirits. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and take the youngest daughter, the family must come together to rescue her.

There has been some controversy about the remake of the movie. The original was already so good. Some former actors/actresses and crew workers were very superstitious about the movie because they believed the set was actually haunted. Three of the former child actors died in grisly strange ways after the making of the Poltergeist trilogy. Hopefully nothing strange will happen to any of the current actors/actresses.

When asked about his opinion of Poltergeist, Landon Whicker (’16) commented “The movie looked pretty scary, but not the scariest movie I have ever seen.” He also said that he would probably go see it just not right away. Whicker expressed that he liked horror movies, but the thought of a remake of an old movie did not appeal to his interests.

The preview of this movie showed some pretty scary parts in just a few minutes. It should probably keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time or covering your eyes. If you are a horror movie junkie, go and watch it May 22nd when it comes out in theaters!
